I used to go all the time to these with my dad in Chicago, but since I am in New York this year I decided to check it out here. I went with my friend Brian and we had a good time sitting in a lot of expensive cars. However, it was a different atmosphere this year. The exhibits were not as flashy, the give-aways were scarce, concept cars few, and even the posters were nowhere to be found. It might just be the difference between New York and Chicago (the McCormick center is bigger) but there is a feeling that, especially among the American companies, there is little room for celebration or lavish exhibitions. It was actually sort of sad to see how unpopular some of the US companies are. There was hardly anyone at the GMC area and no one cared for Buick either. At least Ford, Chevy, Lincoln and Cadillac were drawing in some people but they had little to offer other then the usual gas guzzlers. I was expecting to see more of an emphasis on hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles even though most of the concept cars were hybrids. Few of the production models were actual hybrids. Still, the show was worth the trip and I did get to see an autobot as well as that black beetle that does the VW commercials.
